The Mississippi State Medical Association is the largest physician advocacy organization in Mississippi, representing nearly 5,000 physicians and medical students. Any physician with a license to practice medicine in Mississippi and any student enrolled in a Mississippi medical school is eligible for membership.  Retired physicians also comprise an important segment of MSMA's membership.

MSMA has a strong history dating back to 1856 as a trusted health policy leader and professional development resource. MSMA represents the unified voice of physicians statewide on state and federal health care issues while providing information needed to navigate health care legislation and regulatory changes. MSMA also provides innovative physician education and practice management resources and accredits continuing medical education programs.

Though the practice of medicine has changed in myriad ways over the past nearly-150 years since MSMA was formed, one thing has remained constant:  MSMA’s mission to support physicians as they seek to improve the health of all Mississippians.
