State law requires that all newly-hired physicians' staff members who take x-rays for diagnostic purposes must complete 12 hours of continued education during the first 12 months of employment. All physicians' employees who take x-rays must have at least 12 hours continuing education every two years to maintain registration with the State Board of Medical Licensure. If you have staff members who require this education, enroll them now in MSMA-sponsored workshops approved by the Radiation Advisory Council of the Mississippi Department of Health!
These training programs are designed specifically for the physician's employee who has not had college training in radiology. The workshops consist of 12 hours of instruction including six hours in radiation protection, three hours in radiographic image production, and three hours patient positioning. These courses will satisfy the requirements of the law passed by the Mississippi Legislature.
Registration for each 12-hour training session is $125 per person for employees of MSMA member physicians and $200 per person for employees of physicians who are not members of MSMA. Advance registration is required at least two weeks in advance of seminar date. Space is limited, and registrants are seated on a first-come basis. No on-site registration is accepted. (Please note: a minimum of three months hands-on experience is recommended prior to workshop participation. Licensed nurse practitioners, nationally registered radiologic technologists, and nationally registered nuclear medicine technologists are not required to take this course.)
All classes are scheduled for Friday, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration form is available by selecting the "brochure" link to the right. For more information, contact Jenny White at 601-853-6733, Ext. 332 or at jwhite@MSMAonline.com.
